Job Information

Join our team and play a key role in ensuring compliance with tax legislation and supporting the collection of vital revenues for the Government of the Northwest Territories. As a Tax Officer, you'll work on diverse tasks such as monitoring tax remittances, conducting desk audits, and assisting taxpayers with accurate calculations. This position offers a mix of analytical work, client interaction, and problem-solving in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and reconcile payroll, fuel, and tobacco tax remittances for accuracy.
  • Perform desk audits and inspections to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Assist taxpayers with registration and interpretation of tax requirements.
  • Investigate discrepancies and recommend corrective actions or refunds.
  • Prepare reports, maintain records, and support year-end processes.
Key Qualifications
  • Completion of Business or Accounting Degree, or similar and two (2) years of experience working in a financial office environment.
  • Similar Degrees could include, but are not limited to, Finance and Commerce.
Equivalencies
  • Completion of a Business or Accounting Diploma, or similar and four (4) years of experience working in a financial office environment.
  • Completion of a Business Administration Certificate or similar and five (5) years of experience working in a financial office environment.
  • Completion of a Bookkeeper & Financial Officer Training course and six (6) years of experience working in a financial office environment.
  • Completion of a high school diploma and six (6) years progressively responsible financial office experience.
  • All other equivalencies will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
