The People and Organizational Development (POD) team provides the full-range of support for the UBC Sauder School of Business in Human Resource related activities. The POD team supports over 300 employees, hundreds of student workers and over 200 faculty members. UBC Sauder POD team’s mission is to attract and retain the best talent for UBC Sauder and create a sense of belonging and community for our team members. We do this by creating meaningful and engaging work experiences for our employees.

The Talent and Engagement Specialist is a part of the People and Organization Development team and works closely with, advises and supports managers, candidates and employees with a variety of effective, impactful and innovative recruitment services. The Specialist also manages aspects of the student worker portfolio to ensure best practices are followed from recruitment to student worker job classification.

The Talent and Engagement Specialist plays an important role in recruiting for high volume, difficult to fill positions within UBC Sauder and supports retention efforts within the school.

The Specialist also supports engagement initiatives within the school and is the content owner of the UBC Sauder Intranet.

Work Performed

Talent Acquisition (employee and student worker portfolio)

  • Provides advice to the hiring managers regarding recruitment activities and is responsible for supporting the hiring process within UBC Sauder. Supports units with job postings, reviewing resumes, telephone screening, coordinating interview panel, employment offers, employee onboarding, orientation and offboarding, strategic recruitment and initiatives.
  • Engages in the full recruitment and onboarding cycle, supporting potential and newly hired employees, responds to enquiries, provides moderately complex advice and responsive ongoing support.
  • Actively focuses on recruitment and talent scouting by identifying, engaging, and building relationships with high-potential candidates through networking, outreach, and strategic sourcing initiatives. Provides advice and guidance on effective and efficient use of the systems to expedite and / or streamline hiring processes.
  • Provides input on developing and implementing talent acquisition strategies, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Creates, develops and posts job openings on job search websites.
  • Works closely with Central HR and UBC Sauder POD team members on collective agreement interpretation, candidate priority and duty to accommodate obligations.
  • Enhances and promotes the UBC Sauder brand by developing and implementing strategies that showcase the school’s culture, values and employee experience to attract top talent.
  • Provides general HR advice with regards to university policies, procedures and practices, and the interpretation of collective agreements, other agreements and handbooks governing conditions of employment for student workers.
  • Creates and maintains a framework for hiring student workers within UBC Sauder and works with Faculty Resources team, managers and faculty to ensure compliance.
  • Provides advice to managers relating to the recruitment of the student workers and appropriate roles and classification.
Engagement
  • Coordinates UBC Sauder POD programs, including recognition, training, onboarding and orientation programs.
  • Participates in the development of program content to ensure deliverables are consistent with program goals and to support leadership in engagement efforts.
  • Works with senior leaders within the school to ensure employees are engaged.
  • Liaises proactively with stakeholders across the school to identify experiences and opportunities for learning.
  • Identifies and connects with program participants and their supervisors to ensure that participants and heads / managers are appropriately supported.
  • Advises program participants, ensuring a consistently welcoming experience that is inspiring, engaging, and informative.
  • Acts as liaison with workshop facilitators to ensure that workshop materials including lesson plans, PowerPoint presentation and pre-workshop assignments are relevant and updated.
  • Stays abreast with changes within the University as a whole and learns new ways to deliver information to future and current employees.
Communications
  • Sources, creates, manages, and maintains content for the UBC Sauder intranet; provides recommendations and ensures that all content is of a high professional standard, is timely and adheres to UBC Sauder Marketing and Communications brand and graphic standards rules.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Engagement and Organizational Development, develops the critical success skills required to keep the employees of UBC Sauder engaged with the Intranet.
  • Monitors site analytics and / or Google Analytics and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Performs other duties aligned with classification of the role.
Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two to three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Human resource experience in a complex union environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing successful internal communications and employee engagement plans.
  • Experience with recruitment is an asset.
  • Ability to maintain high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications at an intermediate level, including Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel (including ability to develop and use formulas), MS PowerPoint, database programs and internet applications and tools.
  • Proficient in HR systems with working knowledge of the electronic recruiting system is an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure, to meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Advanced writing, and editing skills, and the ability to adapt style for a variety of audiences. Excellent grasp of grammar, with proven ability to write accurate and engaging content for websites.
  • Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and judgment is required.
  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to analyze numerical data, draw logical inferences, and provide reasonable recommendations. Ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, change data into information and effectively find resolution.
  • Ability to deal with a diversity of people always maintaining awareness of the client perspective.
  • Understanding of employee engagement trends and best practices.
  • Effective at working independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, strategic planning and leadership skills to establish and maintain communication with academic clients, faculty and employees.
Compensation

5,365.42 - $7,709.92 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.
