Job summary

A regional health organization in Halifax is seeking a Nutrition and Food Service Supervisor. About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Nutrition and Food Services (NFS), the Nutrition and Food Service Supervisor is responsible for front-line supervision of employees, day-to-day operations, meal service and delivery, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of assigned work areas. The Supervisor acts as an ambassador and liaison within the integrated model of Nutrition and Food Services, providing leadership for employees in the area and at remote sites. As part of the management team, the Supervisor assists in carrying out administrative and operational functions within designated areas in accordance with the NFS strategic plan. Commitment to patient safety, quality assurance, food safety, and continuous improvement is essential.

About You
  • Nutrition post-secondary degree (preferred) or completion of a recognized course in Food and Nutrition Management (required)
  • Journeyman Cook Red Seal Certification is an asset
  • Completion of an Advanced Food Safety Certification and HACCP Training
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in food service or clinical nutrition management or leadership and operations (preferred, most recent within the last 5 years)
  • Experience in a health care setting and unionized environment preferred
  • Knowledge of customer-focused food service operations; room service model preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, staff management, and coaching in a unionized environment; hire, develop & retain solid performers
  • Strong judgement, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Conflict resolution skills and a positive change management orientation
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practice, and organizational health
