Summary: This position is in Kitchener, Ontario and directly reports into the Director of Construction, Ontario. The Substations Construction Manager creates an environment for construction execution excellence. They are responsible for organizing the day-to-day activities of the field staff in an efficient and safe manner. They are constantly looking for opportunities to improve the delivery and customer experience of substation construction projects. The Substations Construction Manager is also a subject matter expert and thus responsible for the mentoring, coaching, career development, and training of all field staff. The Substations Construction Manager needs to work closely with project management to ensure all projects are profitable and delivered on time.

Qualifications
  • 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician designation.
  • Formal construction management training from a recognized technical institute considered an asset.
  • PMI certification considered an asset.
  • 15+ years of substation construction experience.
  • 10+ years of people management, mentoring and leadership experience.
  • Extensive and broad high voltage construction experience.
Skills
  • Advanced level of substation construction execution and planning
  • Detailed knowledge of the Ontario electrical code, and regulations
  • General knowledge of provincial networks across Eastern Canada
  • Ability to coach and mentor field staff
  • Comfortable and proficient with computer software such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Duties

Leadership

  • Develop technical and strategic project delivery plans in conjunction with Project Manager and senior management where necessary
  • Provide technical assistance, mentoring and coaching to all field staff
  • Support the proposals team by developing construction execution plans
  • Perform site visits to assess construction results and practices to ensure they are following the required standards
  • Attend and contribute to regular meetings including project kickoffs, reviews, and weekly tactical meetings

Operations

  • Work with Project managers / Field Supervisors and others to scope and plan construction priorities of a project
  • Perform resource planning to align with the hours allowed in proposal
  • Ensure all projects are properly resourced with correct staffing levels and technical competencies
  • Review all grounding plans, GOIs, and scope of work with Supervisor and crew
  • Correctly scope work to ensure PM, Field Supervisors, and Safety staff have an accurate understanding of the project
  • Work with Fleet team to ensure the Iconic owned construction tools and equipment of the correct quantity and type are stocked and in proper working order before they leave the shop
  • Evaluate program requirements for all construction activities for the Project as outlined by Owner and/or Project Manager
  • Ensure the Field supervisors are informed on the project requirements in accordance with the project schedule
  • Assist with the resolution and closeout of non-compliance / deficiency reports
  • This also includes field / office training of all construction staff on the proper procedures on all construction activities
