The post holder will provide medical input and leadership for an experienced multi-disciplinary mental health team providing services for patients primarily organic illness, though there will be opportunities for work with functional patients if desired by the successful candidate. There are many emerging opportunities to help shape and develop services according to the evolving needs of the local population.

You are invited to form links with the wider Cambridge based consultant old age psychiatry group and will be encouraged to take part in research, education and continuing professional development activities.

Inpatient care and medical input into the Older People\'s Crisis Team are provided by consultant colleagues within the acute care system and the post holder will work closely with them and with the colleagues within the liaison service to ensure care is well co-ordinated.

The successful applicant will not therefore be expected to manage emergency presentations (referrals requiring a 5 day or 24-hour response) as these are dealt with by the crisis team which has dedicated consultant input. There is no inpatient element to this job.

For appropriately qualified and motivated applicants the job plan can be modified to include protected and paid time for research, management, educational or international development activity.

Much of the work is providing assessments for new patients in a clinic setting, many of whom are people referred for assessment of possible dementia. Patients are then discharged back to G.P. care or are taken into the multi-disciplinary team where they are care co-ordinated by a team member and reviewed by the consultant as required.

To attend and occasionally lead weekly MDT meetings and ensure prompt reviews of unwell patients

To work closely with the CRHTT OP, community teams and liaison services as patients move between these teams

To deliver evidence-based treatments

To maintain accurate and up to date clinical records

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will work alongside community-based consultant colleagues to provide medical leadership for an experienced multi-disciplinary mental health team delivering assessment and treatment for patients with primarily memory patients, sometimes a mixture of functional and organic illness. The OPMH service adopted a strategy of integrated care delivery.

Inpatient care and medical input into the Older People\'s Crisis Team is provided by consultant colleagues within the acute care system and the post holder will work closely with them and with the colleagues within the liaison service to ensure care is well co-ordinated.

The team meets for a weekly MDT meeting every Thursday, which is for case discussions, diagnosis, medication and clinical supervision for the nursing staff. It is expected that the Specialty Doctor will attend these meetings to support clinical decision-making and provide medical input to support the team.

In addition, throughout the week, the Specialty Doctor will be available to respond to clinical queries arising from Peterborough MAS patients and those on the waiting list, providing timely advice and support to the nursing staff as required. The role also includes attending triage sessions once a week, for one hour (in the morning 9am-10am) to support clinical prioritisation and new referral case reviews.

It\'s expected the doctor completes mixtures new assessments and follow up including home visits. This may be 3 new assessments or 2 new assessments and 2 follow ups.

The job plan is flexible to take account of clinical and professional interests, including time within the job plan for suitably qualified and motivated individuals to develop interests such as teaching, research, QI and pursuing CESR or other relevant training to enhance their future career prospects.

This year we responded swiftly to the need for remote working and now deliver the bulk of clinical assessments and all MDT team meetings via approved secure video platforms. This limits the need for travel.
