Job description

As a member of the Youth Psychiatry Program, you will use best practices to provide person centred Social Work services to transitional-aged youth and their families. This includes assessment, therapeutic intervention and discharge planning; in collaboration with the clinical team, client, families, and hospital and community partners.

Duties
  • Assessment, short-term goal focused treatment and support to youth and their families and caregivers.
  • Provide individual, family and group therapy following best practice standards.
  • Complete risk assessment and crisis intervention plans for chronic high risk of self-harm and suicide.
  • Engage client, family and caregivers in the clinical interventions and risk reduction strategies with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients, families and caregivers for appropriate services and resources.
  • Collaborate, consult and liaise with team members and community resources.
  • Provide timely and comprehensive written bio-psycho-social assessments, treatment and discharge reports.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of a professional social worker.
  • Document on the clinical record according to hospital, college and legislative standards.
  • Maintain workload measurement and data collection as required.
  • Participate and lead in research and program evaluation.
  • Participate in teaching, education and supervision of Social Work students.
  • Attend and actively participate in monthly Social Work Peer Consultation groups and social work discipline meetings.
  • Keep current of hospital policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Keep up to date regarding professional standards by reviewing current literature, attending education events, networking with colleagues, etc.
  • Participate in Program and discipline specific committees and task groups.
  • Provide educational presentations to community groups.
  • Work in a manner that complies with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the ROHCG.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Social Work is required.
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years clinical Social Work experience in a mental health setting.
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Experience working with youth and families in a mental health setting.
  • Knowledge and experience in concurrent disorders, mood and anxiety, trauma and evidence-based treatments.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced inter professional clinical environment are essential.
  • The candidate must have competence to perform psychotherapy and experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), or other modalities (depending on the needs of the program). Preference will be given to those who hold certificates/certification.
  • Understanding of early onset of psychosis, and other mental health issues including substance use in youth in both individual and group settings.
  • Excellent knowledge of community resources related to the needs of youth and families.
  • Knowledge of recovery-based programs.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislated acts (e.g. MHA, PHIPA, The Health Care Consent Act).
  • Ability to manage and determine priorities with a diverse caseload.
  • High level of knowledge, skill and confidence in using electronic health record systems for clinical documentation and navigation.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading & writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
