Position: SMP - 15: Educational Assistant – EA 2

Location: Sister Mary Philips

Hours/Week: 12.5 - 15.5 hours per week

Start Date: ASAP

Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is looking for a half-time Educational Assistant in ECS.

Qualifications
  • Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma
Requirements
  • Support students’ growth in the areas of cognition, communication, physical and social development
  • Support and/or implement teacher directed programming
  • Work collaboratively under guidance of teacher, CST and other member of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Implement specialist (OT, PT, SLP, etc) strategies to achieve required goals
  • Able to work with student to implement and support literacy/numeracy
  • Toileting routines if required
  • Communicate effectively with students using age appropriate positive reinforcements and/or school specific behaviour strategies
  • Work and play at student’s physical level of their activities
  • Physically handle and transfer students when unsafe
  • Physical ability to lift and move students
  • Provide school directed indoor and outdoor student supervision
  • Employee is expected to work with behaviours related/associated with conduct, obsessive/compulsive, trauma and stress related, severe chronic depressive, feeding and/or eating disorders etc. Other behaviours related to ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning and speech & language-related disabilities, etc may be encountered.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check. FMCSD will contact past and present employers for references. All FMCSD employees are expected to be computer literate; this includes fluency with e-mail, Internet and MS Office.
