Overview

Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) is hiring a Senior Real Estate Specialist on a permanent basis on our Facility Design & Development team. This position can be remote and based across Western Canada.

What you’ll do
  • Assist local Co-ops in the assigned geography to execute their real estate strategy, including leading leasing or purchasing discussions, negotiating LOIs, reviewing legal documents, working with local brokers to select locations, and assisting on other real estate initiatives.
  • Negotiate new leases and renewals primarily on behalf of TGP, FCL, and related entities by researching rental rates, negotiating lease terms, reviewing lease documentation, communicating with tenants and landlords, evaluating offers to leases, and coordinating with external and internal legal counsel.
  • Work with various groups on feasibilities and documentation of agreements for FCL-owned property.
  • Assist with property sales and purchases by leading discussions with real estate agents, making recommendations on market value, corresponding with internal and external legal counsel, and assisting/leading rezoning applications when required.
  • Continually review and evaluate current property management practices and make decisions and recommendations on how to improve.
  • Travel up to 10%.

You will work closely with local Co-ops, other FCL Business Units, and the Facilities Design & Development team. You will have a direct report and will report to the Senior Manager Real Estate & Development, being part of a results-driven team that values accountability and collaboration.

Who you are

You are looking for a career in Real Estate & Property Management and:

  • 6–9 years of relevant progressively responsible experience.
  • Bachelors degree in Commerce, Urban Land Economics, or a relevant field (combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Experience in retail, commercial, and industrial property management including real estate acquisitions, appraisal, asset management, development, dispositions, leasing, or other relevant experience.
  • Obtained or working towards the Real Property Administrator designation through BOMI Canada, or CPM through the Real Estate Institute of Canada is an asset.
