The Role

As the Senior Manager, Fund Tax Advisory & Reporting, you will lead and oversee tax administration and reporting for Canadian investment funds, ensuring compliance with all applicable tax regulations. You will act as a strategic advisor and subject matter expert on taxation matters related to investment products, supporting product development, sales, client administration, financial reporting, and fund accounting.

This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex tax processes while mitigating risk and driving operational excellence.

  • Leads and drives a customer‑focused culture throughout your team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Tax subject‑matter expert providing guidance to cross‑functional teams on new product initiatives and current product change initiatives, including analysis of tax implications to the investment fund products and the investors.
  • Engage with external advisors on complex advisory items, as appropriate.
  • Oversee distributions for investment funds, including oversight of service providers and year‑end processes.
  • Manage tax compliance for investment funds, including annual tax returns and timely, accurate preparation of tax regulatory filings.
  • Develop and review policies and procedures to ensure they are efficient and effective, with required procedures and controls in place.
  • Make decisions on tax‑related matters affecting the investment funds while assessing and managing risk exposure to the organization and clients.
  • Monitor changes to legislation, communicate changes, and support initiatives that arise from those changes.
  • Liaise with tax authorities, internal partners, and service providers on assessments, audits, and enquiries related to investment funds.
  • Coordinate and review work performed by foreign tax agents with respect to foreign tax calculations and reporting required for the investment funds.
  • Understand how the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment where your team pursues effective operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring adequacy of day‑to‑day business controls (operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, conduct risk).

  • Completion of CPA In‑Depth Tax Program
  • Advanced knowledge of tax issues affecting investment funds
  • Experience with investment fund tax reporting (trusts, corporations, limited partnerships)
  • Strong tax regulatory research and analysis skills; tax advisory experience an asset
  • Ability to work effectively while managing multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication, relationship, influencing and interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication and listening skills
  • Strong client‑service orientation; ability to listen to client needs, present clear solutions, and build partnerships internally and externally
  • Innovative thinking, focusing on improving control effectiveness and efficiency
  • Project management and problem‑solving skills
  • Self‑motivated, committed to results, and able to handle a significant volume of complex deliverables on a rigid schedule of statutory deadlines
