Our client is a well-established, mid-sized electrical contracting company with a strong track record of delivering quality work in high-rise residential and ICI construction projects. With steady growth and a solid pipeline of projects, they are seeking a Senior Estimator / Chief Estimator to lead their estimating team and play a key role in driving their business forward.
The Opportunity
The Senior Estimator / Chief Estimator will oversee the preparation of accurate and competitive bids for large-scale electrical projects in the high-rise and ICI sectors. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a mid-sized company environment, where you’ll have direct impact, autonomy, and opportunities for leadership growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating team in preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and proposals for electrical contracting projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to develop accurate pricing and scope assessments.
- Conduct material take-offs, labor estimates, subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Analyze project risks, provide value-engineering options, and ensure competitiveness of bids.
- Oversee tendering processes, attend pre-bid meetings, and manage subcontractor / supplier negotiations.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and senior leadership to support bid strategy and hand-over to operations.
- Develop and refine estimating procedures, templates, and cost databases to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Mentor and support junior estimators, fostering growth and consistency across the estimating department.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of estimating experience in electrical contracting, with a focus on high-rise residential and ICI construction projects.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, drawings, and construction methodologies.
- Proven experience in tendering, material take-offs, and cost analysis.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills when dealing with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Proficiency in estimating software, (Accubid preferred or similar) and Microsoft Office (Excel in particular).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and lead a small estimating team.
- Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent trade background considered an asset.
- Journeyperson Electrician license (asset, not required).
