From small businesses to some of the world’s best-known brands, our clients count on reliable financial statements, information and processes to inform their ongoing strategies. You will use your professional skills and experience to develop a deep understanding of your client’s processes and internal controls over financial reporting framework to determine where gaps exist, assist clients in remediating those gaps and keep efficiency at the forefront of mitigating financial reporting risks.

The opportunity

As a Senior, you will be a professional member of our Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS) team. In Canada, our FAAS team consists of dedicated financial reporting and accounting advisory professionals in seven locations across the country. We combine technical accounting skills in IFRS, ASPE and US GAAP, practical experience in financial reporting processes and Internal Controls over Financial Reporting, as well as deep sector and regulatory knowledge to deliver world‑class service to our clients.

Your key responsibilities
  • Partner with finance leaders to tackle challenges and navigate changes affecting financial and accounting functions.
  • Support acquisitions, divestitures, IPOs, GAAP conversions, optimization/restructuring, accounting standards policy implementation and convergence.
  • Assist clients with remediation of pre‑existing material weaknesses or significant deficiencies in their control framework and design/implementation of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Create innovative commercial insights for clients and drive improvements in business processes.
Skills and attributes for success
  • Technical accounting experience in IFRS and US GAAP with multiple years of audit experience at a top accounting firm.
  • Experience researching application of accounting standards to transactions, assessing financial and governance processes, and providing tailored training.
  • Audit experience with NI 52‑109 and/or SOX 404 regulatory requirements.
  • Client‑facing experience assessing control failures and determining material weaknesses or significant deficiencies.
  • Risk assessment and internal control design evaluation.
  • Understanding of IT general controls and entity‑level controls.
  • Preparation of deliverables tailored to client needs.
  • Relationship building with client management.
  • Knowledge of client industry, key performance drivers, business trends, and emerging technical and industry developments.
  • Awareness of changing market conditions and regulatory developments and their impacts on clients.
  • Use of technology to learn, share knowledge and enhance service delivery.
  • Participation in training programs for continuous skill development.
  • Cooperative relationships and mutual support with other EY service line teams.
To qualify for the role you must have
  • A Canadian CPA designation (or an equivalent international qualification) and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Audit or business experience applying accounting standards, including IFRS.
  • Audit or business experience in financial statement close and application of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting, preferably with SOX 404 or NI 52‑109 compliance.
  • Demonstrated mastery of key concepts related to internal controls, finance process improvements, project management and change management, consistently applied in engagement settings.
  • Impeccable client relationship skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A dedication to teamwork and leadership.
  • The ability to work independently in a fast‑paced, dynamic, team‑oriented environment.
What we offer
  • Competitive compensation based on performance and value delivered.
  • Comprehensive medical, prescription drug and dental coverage, a defined contribution pension plan, a generous vacation policy and paid personal days.
  • Support and coaching from engaging colleagues.
  • Opportunities to develop new skills and progress your career.
  • Freedom and flexibility to shape your role in a way that works for you.
