SENIOR CAMP LEADER (INCLUSION RESOURCE)

Department: Community Services Department - Recreation Division

Number of Positions: Three (3)

Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Road, Belleville, ON)

Hours: 35 hours per week, between 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, alternate Tuesdays until 6:15pm. Note: Training hours (June) will differ.

Employee Group: Non-Union

Salary: $18.75 - $20.54 per hour

Purpose and Scope

As a member of the Community Services Department, this position will provide leadership, support and resources for staff working with children and youth ages 4-17 years. The role involves providing adaptive and behaviour management modifications for age-appropriate programming for other leaders, and working directly with these children to provide assistance as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of participants and follow all rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of daily activities to ensure a successful program.
  • Assist with the proper handling and care of equipment, supplies and facilities, and report damages or losses to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Be a resource to fellow leaders regarding adaptive programming requirements to better meet the needs of campers with both identified and unidentified behaviour and/or diagnosed campers who require specialized programming.
  • Ensure the completion and submission of required administrative forms (e.g., accident forms, supply requests, special event forms).
  • Participate in daily activities with campers (including swimming).
  • Evaluate overall program success; submit reports and feedback to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Attend all Summer Staff Training sessions and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Provide timely, accurate information to the Camp Coordinator and respond appropriately to their decisions and directions.
  • Make decisions around child safety, supervision, activity planning, camper behaviour management, and evaluating programs. Also solve problems and implement solutions to children’s special programming/accommodation needs.
  • Perform all tasks and responsibilities through the lens of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, ensuring commitment to fairness, representation, accessibility and respect for diverse perspectives and cultures in all aspects of work.

Required Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary student or graduate studying Child & Youth Worker, Behavioural Science, Education, Social Services, or another child‑related field.
  • Valid current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid High Five and Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle (required for some positions).
  • Successful Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.
  • Minimum of two (2) years/seasons of experience as a Junior Program Leader or equivalent experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting.
  • Experience with program/lesson planning, design, development, and implementation of age‑appropriate activities.
  • Experience working with special needs children and making modifications to program planning.
  • Experience implementing behaviour management techniques with children.
Asset Qualifications
  • NCCP Coaching certifications.
  • Supervisory experience.
Recruitment Process

Stage 1 – Interviews: Interviews with candidates selected for the interview stage will be scheduled between February 20, 2026 and February 22, 2026.

Stage 2 – Offer Letter and Onboarding Paperwork: Offers will go out before the end of March 2026 and a date will be included in all offer letters for return of onboarding paperwork.

Stage 3 – Start Date: Anticipated commencement of this position is June 6, 2026 to June 28, 2026 (training, reduced schedule); regular schedule from June 29, 2026 until September 4, 2026.
