Position Details

• Position: Casual Security Officer
• Site: St. John’s Port Authority
• Overtime: After 48 hours
• Hours: As Needed
• Payrate: $20.00/hour
• Posting Date: November 4th, 2025
• Internal Closing Date: November 15th, 2025
• External Closing Date: November 15th, 2025
• Schedule Example: As Required

Key Responsibilities

• Based on specific site posting, log and report all incidents reported by SJPA staff or visitors.
• Patrol interior and exterior of facility preventing unauthorized entry; in a composed manner direct individuals initiating disruption to leave the premises.
• While on patrol, monitor risks such as unlocked doors, blocked entrances, mechanical issues, hazardous material and additional breaches of security.
• Respond to alarms and emergency calls for assistance, monitoring situations, cameras, property and events.
• Communicate in a truthful and receptive manner under all circumstances and provide information regarding the facility as requested by personnel.
• Sustain effective relationships with key managers and visitors through courteous and respectful relations perceived from their viewpoint.
• Monitor and screen visitors and clients in a professional manner to grant access to the facility.
• Access control to monitor, record and submit written reports of the arrival of all vessels in each respective zone including arrival/departure time and berth location.

Prerequisites

• Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
• MTSC (Marine Transportation Security Clearance).
• Valid First Aid & CPR – Level C from a CSA‑approved vendor.
• Valid Class 5 Driver License.
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must.
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB).
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin’s UoF/MOAB training program prior to onboarding to meet the requirements.
• The UoF/MOAB training is not paid; Paladin will cover all costs with a 6‑month commitment to the position.
