Wood is recruiting a Rotating Equipment Specialist to join our Operations business in support of a key Oil & Gas client on a major brownfields Engineering Service Contract. Based in Perth CBD, this role is available on contract commencing early in 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of Discipline ‑ Mechanical, the primary focus of your role is to advise on the condition and refurbishment requirements of Stripping Gas Compressors on an existing oil & gas facility. This will include reviewing vendor recommendations and consulting with the Wood team on technical aspects applicable to the compressor, as well as identifying and specifying details relating to planned refurbishment procedures and activities. You may also be required to attend occasional offshore site visits for inspections and implementation oversight.

You will join a dedicated client contract team and work in close partnership with other disciplines and our client, to enable robust technical decisions that ultimately add value to the client and asset portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver hands‑on technical support for industrial gas turbines, compressors, and gearboxes during installation, maintenance, and overhaul activities
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including Cause & Effect diagrams and as‑built records.
  • Act as a key interface between engineering and site teams, ensuring smooth execution during shutdowns and commissioning
  • Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis on rotating equipment
  • Oversee major overhauls and upgrades, including borescope inspections, combustion inspections, and component replacements
  • Support planning and execution of shutdowns, including work pack preparation and isolation procedures.

Expected

You will be able to work lawfully in Australia and hold full working rights for this location.

Ideally you will have 20 years of hands‑on experience with industrial gas turbines, compressors, and rotating equipment in Oil & Gas production and/or processing industries. You will be suitably qualified from a recognised institution in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) or equivalent diploma, or technical trade paired with significant industry experience.

In addition, you will:
  • Be recognised as an expert in Rotating Equipment within the oil & gas industry and have knowledge of advanced principles and techniques in the design, operation and maintenance of stripping gas compressors
  • Proven experience liaising with project teams to scope and advise on the refurbishment activities, including inputting to and reviewing of Work Packs, supported by experience organising bespoke items required for refurbishment
  • Be a leader of people with several years of supervisory experience, capable of engendering an entrepreneurial spirit of cooperation and energising diverse teams to adopt best practice, driving optimal performance with safety at the heart of everything we do
  • Excellent knowledge of rotating equipment design, operation, and maintenance strategies
  • Be an effective communicator (both written and verbal) with excellent client‑facing skills
  • A "solutions mindset" and skilled in the management of risk and aligned with safety, technical and commercial requirements while delivering within a challenging and complex multi‑discipline environment
  • Competent user of SAP systems, MS Office applications and commercial engineering programs
  • Be customer focused with an ability to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, while balancing operational excellence to contribute to the competitive advantage of #teamwood.
Desirable

What will set you apart will be your proven experience maintaining Stripping Gas Compressors on offshore facilities working in a similar Rotating Equipment Specialist / SME role. Current TBOSIET and MSIC certifications would also be considered advantageous.
