Job Synopsis

This is a full-time position (with some flexibility), based in Prince George, serving clients in the Kitimat-Stikine, Peace River, Bulkley-Nechako, Fraser Fort George, Cariboo, and North Coast regional districts (population of ~300,000), mostly online, reporting to the Rent Bank Team Lead. The Rent Bank program provides interest-free loans and grants to low-income families and individuals facing eviction or utility disconnection due to a temporary financial crisis, and aids clients moving out of homelessness. One-to-one budget analysis, education on tenancy rights, advocacy with landlords and utility companies, and referrals to community services are also part of the program. The role may assist remotely with Fraser Valley Rent Bank applications. The CNRB is supported by MCC's Fraser Valley Rent Bank team and MCC BC's financial systems and staff, located in Abbotsford, BC. The Rent Bank Case Worker will be supported by MCC BC staff in Prince George focused on community development and domestic violence work. MCC is a faith-based charitable organization that partners with churches and community organizations to walk with people who are disadvantaged and to respond to basic human needs, promote healthy communities, and advance peace and justice. This position requires living out your faith and positively advancing the mission of MCC in engagement with clients, community partners, churches and the broader community.

Missional Commitment, Hours, Location, & Working Conditions
  • Missional commitment: demonstrated commitment to a personal Christian faith and discipleship; active participation in a Christian church or community; nonviolent peacemaking; adherence to MCC BC's Code of Conduct and Workplace Health and Safety; and contributing to an organizational culture that prevents and responds to abuse of power. Includes devotional and prayer times and ability to address inquiries about MCC BC's mission and values.
  • How much you work: full-time (37.5 hours/week) on a term arrangement until March 31, 2026, dependent on external funding and renewed annually.
  • When you work: generally 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility to accommodate program needs.
  • Where you work: hybrid-work from home with scheduled client meetings in Prince George; mostly online; travel < 10% expected; occasional travel to other MCC BC locations within BC for training or meetings.
  • Pace of work: busy office environment with unanticipated requests from clients and colleagues; potential moderate stress during busy periods; workload may vary with rent cycles.
  • Physical conditions & requirements: up to 75% computer-monitor time; minimal physical activity; lifting up to 10 lbs (4.5 kg).
  • Interactions with vulnerable populations: working with clients in crisis; potential exposure to troubling information and emotional impact.

Education, Experience, & Accreditations

  • Social Services Worker Diploma or related education preferred
  • Two years of relevant experience (preferably case management) with low income / PWLE clients
  • Knowledge of relevant community service agencies and resources

Job Requirements & Licensing

  • Satisfactory criminal record clearance (required upon hire)
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • Valid Canadian Driver's License and acceptable driving record; car access preferred

Key Responsibilities

CASE MANAGEMENT

  • Pre-screen clients, walk through the application procedure, collect confidential documents securely, enter data, and maintain confidential client files
  • Process applications and respond to clients in a timely manner
  • Accurately enter data and track client contact and funding information in the Client Management System and other tracking systems
  • Provide information to tenants and landlords including resources, education and legislation to sustain successful tenancies
  • Complete thorough financial analysis of client budgets and provide budgeting feedback
  • Present cases weekly to the Rent Bank Panel and process approvals with clients and Finance Department staff
  • Advocate on behalf of clients; promote problem-solving through clear communication and achievable solutions
  • Build networks with community service providers in Prince George and regional BC to promote the program
  • Refer clients to appropriate resources with a holistic approach to case management
  • Maintain relationships with community service providers to promote the program; refer clients to resources
  • Attend Rent Bank network meetings

Team Participation

  • Demonstrate MCC BC's commitment to Christian mission and values in all interactions
  • Support rent bank colleagues as needed
  • Participate in team meetings, including devotional times and prayers, leading as required
