A leading mental health care center is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse for full-time position in Brockville. The successful candidate will provide specialized mental healthcare, work as part of an inter-disciplinary team, and engage in treatment programs aimed at recovery. Qualifications

  • Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
  • Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
  • CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
  • Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team.
  • English level A- is mandatory; bilingual (English/French) is an asset.

Secure Treatment Unit

The Secure Treatment Unit provides specialized evidence-based assessment and treatment, including using the Risk Needs Responsivity Model of rehabilitation. The programs include, Assessment and Stabilization Unit, Sexual Behaviours Unit, Trauma Disorders Unit, and Aggressive Behaviour Modulation Unit. All units include a range of psychosocial rehabilitation modules that address individual mental health and criminogenic needs. Treatment focuses on mental health recovery and targeting criminogenic needs to facilitate successful community reintegration and reduce recidivism (reoffending).

Qualifications
  • Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.

  • Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding.
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients.
  • Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading and writing. Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
  • Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques.

Salary Range: 35.36 to 37.05 per hour
