As a member of an inter-professional team, the role of the Registered Nurse (RN) at Providence Care is to deliver safe, effective, patient-centred care to assigned patients in a non-acute setting as outlined by hospital policies and procedures and the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario. Working at full scope of practice, the overall function of the RN is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical conditions and transition of the patient and to enhance the quality of life by meeting the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of each person.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates competencies and skills that are essential for the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
  • Evaluates the health status of patients with complexity of care needs and determines the initial plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family members and members of the inter-professional team.
  • Works with the inter-professional team in establishing priorities for care including preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative aspects and participates in discharge planning.
  • Provides direct care to patients within his/her scope of practice in accordance with the College of Nurses standards, Regulated Health Prof Professionals Act, Providence Care policies and procedures, and all other relevant legislation.
  • Advocates for patients and their family as the major decision makers.
  • Protects the rights of patients and their family.
  • Completing a nursing history based on information received from the patient, family and other sources.
  • Developing and recording a comprehensive goal oriented nursing care plan in collaboration with the patient based on assessed needs and prescribed medical regime.
  • Developing therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Accurately following the prescribed medical regime.
  • Recognizes, analyzes, interprets and manages deviations from the predicted client response.
  • Revising nursing care plans based on evaluation using professional judgment and autonomous decision-making.
Qualifications
  • Active, unrestricted license to practice with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Nursing Diploma from an approved university or college.
  • BNSc preferred.
