Basic Requirements
  • Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Recent Pre‑Admission Clinic nursing experience;
  • Physical Assessment course;
  • Exceptional interviewing skills and expert critical thinking skills;
  • Exhibits above average interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Previous experience and demonstrates above average ability to educate and teach patients and family;
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge of multiservice surgical procedures, risks, responsibilities and legalities associated with the in‑patient and outpatient surgical population;
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational, problem solving, multi‑tasking, leadership, and decision‑making skills;
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently, effectively, proactively and competently as an active member of the peri‑operative/surgical health care team;
  • The ability to work collaboratively and efficiently as an active member of the inter‑professional team;
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of evidence‑based practice;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to participate in continuous quality improvement approaches to improve patient care;
  • Demonstrates a professional, positive, respectful and compassionate attitude toward patients, family, the public and colleagues;
  • Demonstrates and consistently role‑models the TOH vision and core values;
  • Demonstrates commitment to continuing education and actively participates in departmental educational activities;
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to apply this process to the practice of nursing;
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing technology;
  • Skilled user in a computer technology environment;
  • Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing;
  • Recent Post Anaesthetic Care Unit or recent Surgical Day Care Unit or recent surgical nursing experience;
  • Current RNAO, ACAO and OPANA membership;
