Job Title:

Specialty Registered Nurse

  • Department: Health Services
  • Reports To: Site Supervisor / Clinical Nurse Lead / Health Director
  • Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time / Casual (Temporary Staffing)
Job Purpose:

The Specialty Registered Nurse provides advanced, specialized care in high-acuity clinical environments such as Intensive Care Units (ICU), Emergency Departments (ER), Operating Rooms, NICUs, and Oncology or Perioperative settings. This role is essential in supporting critical care needs and responding to complex medical conditions across a range of healthcare settings, including remote First Nations communitiesand urban hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver specialized nursing care in settings such as ICU, ER, NICU, Oncology, and Perioperative units
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and implement critical interventions
  • Assist in emergency response, trauma care, and post-operative recovery
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans based on condition changes
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver holistic, patient-centered care

Work Settings:

  • Provide care in FNHA-operated facilities, including:
    • Nursing Stations
    • Health Centres
    • Community Clinics and Specialized Units
  • May also be placed in specialized departments within the following BC Health Authorities:
    • Interior Health
    • Fraser Health
    • Vancouver Coastal Health
    • Vancouver Island Health
    • Northern Health
    • Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA)
Geographic Coverage:

Positions available across all FNHA operational sitesand BC Health Authorities, including urban hospitals and remote care environments.

Qualifications:

Licensure:

  • Must be licensed and registered to practice as a Registered Nursein British Columbia

Specialty Certification:

  • Certification in a specialty area such as ICU, ER, NICU, Oncology, or Perioperative Nursing

Certification:

  • Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Compliance Requirements:

  • Two professional references
  • Up-to-date immunization records
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum 18 months of experience required for Health Care Organization (HCO)placements
  • Minimum 24 months of experience required for FNHAassignments

  • Proficiency in high-acuity patient care and emergency interventions
  • Excellent communication and teamwork within multidisciplinary settings
