Come join us at the Grey Nuns Emergency Department for an opportunity to expand your knowledge and experience as a Mental Health Nurse in a supportive, inclusive, team-orientated, and fast-paced environment. The Grey Nuns Hospital Emergency department is one of Edmonton’s highest volume Emergency Departments. Our team of health care professionals is focused on providing specialized Emergency care and urgent treatments in a community hospital setting. The Mental Health Nurse is a leader in the Emergency Department as part of our Mental Health team and provides a wide variety of nursing care to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families to make a positive difference toward their health and well-being. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care with attention to promoting a positive patient experience to those we serve in the Emergency Department all while practicing and role-modelling our Covenant values of Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Stewardship, and Social Justice.
The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.
Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications:Recent Psychiatric inpatient experience (within the last 2 years) OR Two years fulltime minimum outpatient/community mental health experience required. Excellent assessment and organizational skills required. Expert application of complex mental health assessment tools and suicidality screening tools required. Excellent knowledge and understanding of psychiatric illness, psychotropic medications, DSM-V and the Mental Health act required.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent experience (within the last 2 years) in a high-volume, Urban Emergency department. Experience with Connect Care EHR asset; Emergency Connect Care ASAP preferred.
