Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Nursing team at Maryknoll Therapeutic Community.
- Mentor and develop a small team of four / five Enrolled Nurses and enhance their knowledge through peer consult and training.
- Attend GP appointments with clients and ensure clients understand their health needs.
- Liaise with GP pre / post admission and any other allied health professionals as required.
- Contribute and participate in admissions, intake and discharge review and process, with reference to Physical Health and Mental Health as Life Domains.
- Conduct nursing risk assessments, noting any pre-existing medical conditions and their treatment plan and monitor these conditions throughout the residents\' stay.
- Maintain comprehensive client documentation and case notes, ensuring accuracy and compliance and capturing relevant details for analysis. Administer medications according to the prescriptions and orders on the medication charts, observing the clinical features and ensuring the medications are having the desired effect.
- Evaluate responses to treatment and report to the treating doctor or registered nurse, any new information, changes in condition, or concerns regarding vital signs and withdrawal symptoms, which might indicate the need for a review of the treatment plan.
- Contribute to the development of client individual treatment and recovery plans, involving nominated significant others and family where relevant.
- Support the client to manage problematic emotional difficulties and teaching and role modelling coping strategies to manage distress.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience working within the alcohol and drug sector, mental health or other primary health care environment with an understanding of AOD service navigation with complex needs.
- Experience in conducting drug and alcohol withdrawal and physical assessments.
- Knowledge of contemporary standards and evidence-based practice and interventions in AOD context.
- Excellent people management skills with proven ability to provide clinical supervision.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a natural ability to communicate effectively to a diverse group of people.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing & current registration as Registered Nurse (Division 1) within the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Ideally a Certificate IV in AOD or willingness to complete an AOD Skillset.
