Overview

COMPETITION # 2025-062
POSITION TYPE PERMANENT, FULL-TIME. Reporting to a Regional Unit Supervisor, the Child & Family Services Worker (CFS) is responsible to implement the policies, procedures and specific direction of Awasis Agency of Northern Manitoba when working with families and children in child protection.

Responsibilities
  • Managing a case load
  • Conducting interviews and assessments
  • Compiling case particulars for Court
  • Investigating/follow up on allegations of child protection issues
  • Maintaining regular visits
  • Providing accurate and timely documentation
  • Developing long/short term case plans
  • Developing/facilitating workshops
  • Community education and networking with collateral resources/services
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Social Work Degree (BSW) with experience in child welfare preferred, or a combination of experience and training
  • Commitment to community-based service delivery
  • Working knowledge of CFS legislation, standards and issues
  • Knowledge of Child & Family Services Information System (CFSIS) an asset
  • Assessment, interviewing, and counselling skills
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • A strong work ethic and reliable
  • Proven ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a child protection unit team
  • Sensitivity to, and an understanding of First Nations culture and values
  • Ability to speak and/or understand the Cree language would be an asset
Working Conditions

  • Overnight and remote travel approximately 20% of the time
  • Background checks must meet Agency minimal acceptable standards
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
