Job summary

A local government authority in Sechelt is looking for an Administrative Assistant to provide front-counter service and administrative support to the RCMP detachment. Candidates must have completed Grade 12 and an Administrative Assistant Certificate, along with two years of clerical experience. The Opportunity

The Administrative Assistant provides front-counter service and phone responses to the public as well as administrative and operational support in a confidential manner to the detachment in general. Operational support includes but is not limited to data upload in PRIME, TSMIT (Traffic Services Management Information Tool) and CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) maintenance. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid RCMP reliability security clearance as a condition of employment.

Role Requirements

Applicants must meet the following essential qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus completion of a post‑secondary Administrative Assistant Certificate program
  • a minimum of two years’ experience providing clerical support, preferably in a policing, legal or emergency services environment
  • a high level of proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office tools and the ability to easily learn new programs with training.
  • the ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills, integrity and respect, initiative, critical thinking skills and exercising sound judgement
  • the ability to work in a team‑oriented environment
  • the ability to effectively prioritize a varying workload with shifting priorities
  • the ability to offer excellent customer service while working in potentially stressful environment in dealing with difficult clients
  • a typing speed of at least 50 wpm

Candidates who can demonstrate an acceptable combination of knowledge, skills and progressively responsible experience will also be considered.

Preferred
  • A high degree of proficiency with various policing databases such as PRIME, PIRS, CPIC and experience using WavPEDAL, TSMIT, computerized and manual records management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of RCMP policies, procedures, terminology, court processes and confidentiality considerations is also preferred.
  • Candidates who have obtained the RCMP enhanced security clearance will be given priority. If not already held, the successful applicant will be required to complete the RCMP’s enhanced security clearance.
Working Conditions

This is casual, unionized position within the BCGEU. Wage for the position is set at Grid Level 6, $31.59- $36.50 (2026 rate) per hour plus 9.8% of the straight‑time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave. Shifts will be scheduled on an as‑needed basis and there will be no guaranteed hours. District supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of B.C.
