Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Lead to provide leadership in the coordination and standardization of APL’s Quality Management System (QMS). In this provincial role, you’ll work closely with stakeholders throughout the province to promote a standardized approach to Quality across the organization and advance APL’s Quality department as a center of excellence. Your sound judgment, organizational skills, and ability to collaborate with diverse teams, virtually and in-person, make you a great fit. Your ability to inspire and build confidence in others and foster strong collaborative relationships with a diverse range of staff, leaders, and other internal and external stakeholders enables you to confidently promote quality and best practice across the organization. As such, work location and hybrid work arrangements may be negotiable.

Description

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Lead serves as a trusted source of expertise, recognizing the Quality Management System's (QMS) impact on all aspects of patient care. This position works with a high degree of independence to develop, maintain, and implement policies, processes, and procedures within the assigned area of responsibility. The Quality Lead relies on a solid understanding of CPSA and other accreditation standards and regulations to support departments in maintaining compliance. An excellent understanding of the laboratory path of workflow including pre‑examination, examination and post‑examination processes is essential for providing guidance to laboratory operations. In addition, the role promotes a culture of quality improvement and patient safety, relying on effective change management and project management techniques to support standardization initiatives and continual improvement of quality service. The Quality Lead assists the Quality Manager by overseeing the day‑to‑day management of staff within their assigned team(s), and supports recruitment, training, competence assessment, performance and development of staff. The role provides leadership through clear communication and a commitment to achieving departmental goals to ensure consistent quality service delivery within their assigned area of responsibility.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the last ten (10) years in a clinical laboratory setting, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years demonstrated experience in the last five (5) years coordinating projects or teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal certificate in Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience performing internal or external assessments or audits.
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • Formal certificate in Process Improvement (e.g., AIW Green Belt).
  • Other equivalent experience and qualifications may be considered.
