Large general contractor seeking an experienced Project Engineer with 10+ years of relevant experience in the construction phase of large infrastructure projects in Vancouver or Toronto. Under the general direction of the Construction Manager, the Senior Site Engineer will plan, schedule, and coordinate structural works in the project, managing engineering for daily site operations, including work directly performed and subcontracted.

The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that works are completed safely, on schedule, in compliance with contract requirements, and within budget. All work must be performed efficiently and to the highest standards of quality and workmanship.
Responsibilities of Project Engineer
- Manage all aspects of planning, buildability, engineering input during construction, and hand-over of structures.
- Plan and manage site materials, plant, and equipment for structure completion.
- Supervise and communicate with structural Field Engineers, ensuring understanding of duties and instructions.
- Liaise with subcontractors regarding engineering and construction issues.
- Ensure all works conform to contract drawings and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, occupational health and safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Assist in defining civil and structural work packages and value engineering.
- Follow Quality Management Plan procedures, including inspections and corrective actions.
- Ensure Environmental Management Plan procedures are followed.
Essential Functions of Project Engineer
- Plan, engineer, and coordinate all temporary works related to structural construction.
- Design and specify formwork and falsework for subcontractors.
- Plan structural build sequence and engineering logic with the Construction Manager.
- Design and implement construction methods prioritizing safety.
- Make independent decisions on structural work scope matters.
- Supervise site engineering activities by subcontractors.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Logistics to ensure timely delivery of supplies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep knowledge of civil engineering for structures.
- Familiarity with environmental, safety, and quality standards in civil construction.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Leadership, project management, subcontract management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of design processes and quality systems.
- Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor 3D modeling software.
- Ability to plan and engineer formwork and falsework for multiple sites.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and motivate site staff.
Experience/Qualifications
- Civil engineering degree.
- 8+ years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Leadership experience is a significant asset.
- Over 5 years’ experience in major civil infrastructure projects.
- Formwork management experience.
