In this role, you will:
  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
  • Teaching and coaching a variety of YMCA child, youth and family programs, including advanced leadership courses.
  • Monitor programs for quality, consistency, retention and overall effectiveness. Ensure all safety, program instruction best practices and procedures are adhered to.
  • Organize and implement lesson plans, progress reports and evaluations.
  • Flexible work week including days, evenings, weekends and occasional holiday hours.
  • Maintain records as needed, including audits, behaviour grids, sign in sheets, program area maintenance items and daily checklists.
  • Work alongside Program Manager and Centre Manager to communicate needs of aquatics department to ensure high quality programming.
  • Provide administrative support for staff scheduling, training and supervision.
  • Maintain current qualifications as required by this position.
  • Adhere to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description.
  • Follow all YMCA standards and best practices, protocols and regulations as defined by the association, the Health Department, and other governing bodies.
  • Maintain a high level of retention among qualified, high performing aquatics staff and volunteers through ongoing role modeling, coaching and mentoring.
  • Ensure a front line presence during day, evening and weekend hours as required by YMCA programs and services. Interact with members and participants on a regular basis in order to maintain accessibility and foster relationships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
You bring:
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR Certification ‘C’
  • Current National Lifeguard – Pool
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Ontario Public Pool Regulations
  • Lifesaving instructor certification preferred
  • Advanced lifesaving instructor/examiner certifications preferred
  • Clear Police Reference Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:
  • AODA Training
  • Health & Safety Awareness Training
  • Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
  • PCI Compliance
  • WHMIS
  • Child Protection Training
