A well-established Canadian manufacturer of engineered plastic products and assemblies is seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead daily operations at its advanced manufacturing facility. The organization specializes in serving both the automotive and consumer/commercial sectors, with a focus on innovation, quality, and sustainability.
About the Role
The Production Manager will oversee all manufacturing operations, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety targets are consistently met. This leadership role requires a strong understanding of plastics manufacturing—ideally injection moulding—along with a hands-on approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities & Job Duties:
Production & Operations
• Oversee daily plant operations and ensure adherence to the production schedule.
• Drive production efficiency, monitor key metrics, and ensure cycle time, scrap rate, and manpower targets are achieved.
• Ensure use of correct raw materials and coordinate troubleshooting on production issues.
• Implement and monitor scrap control processes; analyze operations to identify improvement opportunities.
• Support and enforce machine and mould preventive maintenance procedures.
Health, Safety & Quality
• Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with all safety policies.
• Enforce company policies and the quality management system across all shifts.
• Maintain plant cleanliness and implement lean manufacturing practices.
• Ensure immediate resolution of any quality-related concerns and compliance with reporting protocols.
Performance & Reporting
• Monitor KPIs including scrap, downtime, efficiency, and absenteeism.
• Ensure accurate production and quality records are maintained.
• Drive accountability and follow up on performance metrics through action plans when targets are not met.
Leadership & Training
• Lead, mentor, and evaluate production supervisors and staff.
• Ensure adequate training and development of team members, including parts-specific training for machine operators.
• Foster a positive and high-performance work culture.
Ideal Qualifications & Experience:
• Post-secondary diploma required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment, preferably with injection moulding.
• Knowledge of SQF OR ISO 9000 / IATF 16949 is an asset.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including MS Project.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.
