Position

Job Summary

The Product Manager - Education embraces industry trends and the needs of a changing work environment to deliver innovative solutions that enable ease of access, knowledge, and application of standards. The Product Manager owns and manages a portfolio of publications, education courses, and/or technology-based solutions related to standards. They work with internal and external stakeholders to identify market needs, develop business cases, secure funding, and develop effective solutions to fill gaps in the market. This position has a strong business orientation and maintains a close relationship with the market. The Product Manager helps develop a multi-year strategic plan for their product portfolio and manages the product development and go-to-market activities, proactively resolving issues and ensuring the successful launch of projects across various sectors and divisions. The Product Manager must possess a unique blend of leadership, marketing, business, and technical savvy. The Product Manager grows the programs or products in new and existing areas and deliver consistent results, including promoting the use and application of new and existing standards-solutions. The role excels in collaborating with sectors and members to grow user base and maintain relationships to facilitate high engagement and loyalty with CSA Group.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify development opportunities that relate to new business, new markets, portfolio exits or enhancements to meet product, program, and divisional goals
  • Leads cross-sector and Divisional initiatives and working groups as relevant to support core responsibilities as required
  • Participates in defining functional strategies and leading, directly and indirectly, aspects of strategy implementation as required
  • Provides guidance outside of direct reporting relationships to motivate and focus staff to achieve strategic business objectives and revenue results (as applicable)
  • Conducts customer interviews, win/loss analyses, surveys, and focus groups; reviews customer feedback and product usage to identify trends and customer needs
  • Attends industry events and tradeshows and engages regularly with customers and stakeholders at all levels to understand the needs of the market
  • Conducts third party research and market surveys
  • Develops and continually updates buyer and user personas for top product offerings
  • Understands the industry landscape and how CSA Group products compare to competitive offerings
  • Assists in developing and maintaining multi-year strategic plan for portfolio and annual product development plans
  • Develops relationships with significant external and internal customers and stakeholders to identify new product development funding and/or product sales opportunities; leads proposal negotiation, development and contracting as required
  • Ensures seamless customer/stakeholder experience by maintaining accurate and complete client files in Salesforce
  • Develops and oversees market launch plans for new products in collaboration with marketing, sales and marketing teams; ensure timely launch of ecommerce product pages and landing pages
  • Develops product knowledge resources and conducts product knowledge training and provides coaching and guidance for internal staff and third-party distributors, if applicable. Shares best practices among the extended Commercial Services team.
  • Working in collaboration with Marketing and Sales, proposes demand generation activities including the development of promotional plans (call-outs, email blasts, new lists, bundle promotions etc.)
  • Collaborates with other Product Managers to identify cross-sells, bundles, subscription collection opportunities
  • Makes strategic presentations to executive leadership
  • Represents CSA Group professionally to external audiences and develops long-term strategic and business relationships with key stakeholders
  • Develops positioning documents, business proposals, and business cases using data-driven decision making to identify viable opportunities that fit with the strategic objectives of the portfolio, as applicable
  • Participates in annual business planning and monthly revenue/cost forecasting; takes corrective actions as required to address potential shortfalls
  • Provides regular management reporting and analysis
  • Works with product development team to ensure that new and revised products are delivered on time and meet contract requirements
  • Identifies subject matter experts for product development and instructors for courses, if applicable
  • Assists with developing and maintaining pricing models and also helps determine list prices for new and revised products

Qualifications

  • University Degree and a minimum of 7 years of product management or marketing experience
  • Strong verbal and written skills including ability to present to senior leaders
  • Ability to research, propose, and execute effective product plans
  • Proven project management skills and ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects
  • Ability to develop new customer contacts and build outstanding client relationships at all levels in the organization
  • Experience with proposal writing and contract development
  • Product management certification and industry experience an asset
