Position Summary
The PAR porter is a member of the Post Anaesthetic Room Team who assists the nursing staff to transport patients, stock supplies and perform light housekeeping duties.
Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 education; able to read, speak and write English
- Able to communicate effectively and tactfully with patients and members of the health care team
- Good interpersonal skills; able to work in a team setting
- Demonstrated ability to organize time and prioritize needs to complete assigned tasks
- Demonstrated initiative to work independently. Able to follow directions correctly
- Good attendance and work performance record is essential
Responsibilities
- Transports patients within PAR and from PAR to Day Surgery and the In-patient areas
- Notifies receiving unit nurse of patient’s arrival from PAR. Ensures bed sides are up and call bell is within reach of patient
- Completes documentation assigned to the role
- Assists in moving furniture in patient’s room to clear way for the bed or stretcher
- Returns stretcher to the PAR
- Cleans stretcher and replaces linen upon return of stretcher to PAR
- Stocks blanket warmer with linen
- Keep supply of pillows and pillowcases. Requests extra linen supplies when required
- Delivers laboratory specimens to the lab
- Changes and cleans blood pressure cuff between patients
- Cleans oximeter probe between patients
- Prepares PAR bays for early morning procedures including ECT and cardioversions
- Restocks supplies at each bay and within the cupboards and shelves in PAR
- Assists with the general clean up of the unit
- Answers the phone, using proper identification when the UCC or a nurse is busy
- Assists the nurse with a restless patient as requested
- Performs tasks requested by the Nurse Manager or delegate
- Reports to the Resource Nurse prior to leaving the unit at the end of the tour
- Checking the floors for P.A.R. / O.R. stretchers and return them to the unit
- Collects devices for return to MDR
- Other duties as assigned
Wage Rate
Hourly: $27.70....$28.90....$30.11 (plus 14% in lieu of benefits)
