Qualifications

  • Valid Pool Operator Certification (Level I or II) preferred.
  • Experience in pool maintenance or mechanical systems is an asset.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain all swimming pool systems.
  • Respond to unexpected pool issues.
  • Inspect and maintain related mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Perform regular maintenance on equipment.
  • Complete routine backwashes on all pools.
  • Keep accurate logs of water tests and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in training and certifications as required.

The Derrick Golf and Winter Club is Edmonton’s most complete family-oriented private club. Members of all ages and abilities enjoy golf, tennis, swimming, racquet sports, and a wide range of athletic and social activities year-round, all within a friendly, safe, and first-class environment.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, the Pool Operator is part of the Aquatics Department. The Pool Operator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of all saltwater pool systems and mechanical facilities at the Club. This includes ensuring that water quality, filtration systems, heating, and chemical balances meet all health and safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain all swimming pool systems, including pumps, filters, heaters, and chemical feeders.
    • Maintain acid barrel level and concentration.
    • Change and clean controller filters.
    • Cell replacement and cleaning.
  • Respond to any unexpected pool issues.
    • Address water contaminations as needed.
    • Complete emergency work as needed.
  • Inspect and maintain related mechanical and plumbing systems in the pool area and basement facilities.
  • Perform regular maintenance on equipment and promptly address any operational issues or malfunctions.
  • Complete routine backwashes on all pools.
    • Completed during facility closure hours of 9pm-6am.
  • Complete routine vacuuming of all pool basins.
    • Completed during facility closure hours of 9pm-6am.
  • Keep accurate logs of water tests, maintenance activities, and inventory of pool chemicals and supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pool basement and associated work areas.
    • Restock and clean water test stations.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and participate in training or certifications as required.
Skills and Experience
  • Valid Pool Operator Certification (Level I or II) preferred.
  • Experience in pool maintenance, facilities operations, or mechanical systems is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of plumbing, HVAC, and water systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Reliable, proactive, and comfortable working in “back-of-house” environments.
  • Ability to lift moderate weights (up to 50lbs.) and perform physical tasks safely.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays as required.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
