Job description
About the Opportunity

Our company-wide People Stewardship team is searching for a student to join our team on a part-time, temporary basis (12-15 hours per week) for a four-month term, working out of our Kamloops or Calgary offices.

As a professional services consulting firm, the development of people is central to what we do. At Urban Systems, you’ll find we do things a little differently around here. You won’t find an HR department, but you will find a passionate and collaborative team dedicated to the stewardship of our people, their growth, and development across Urban. We like the language of "stewardship" because it embodies an ethic of care and trust, which is something we can get behind. As a small, highly integrated team, we contribute to and shape the employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle – from recruitment and onboarding, to learning and development, wellbeing, culture, employment law, privacy, culture, and benefits. If you are looking for the chance to spend the next few months getting exposed to all aspects of people development, keep reading!

We strive to create student opportunities that are exciting, challenging, and rewarding, and offer exposure to the multi-faceted nature of people stewardship. Our goal is for you to come away with new perspectives and an enhanced skill set that will serve you well in your career.

Responsibilities
  • Recruitment Support – Supporting our company-wide recruitment efforts by connecting with applicants, scheduling interviews, researching and tracking campus events, and helping create and post jobs to our external job board and third-party websites/job boards.
  • Systems Maintenance – Maintaining monthly hire and de-hire tracking, processing invoices, supporting the promotion of our internal learning platforms, researching compensation information for a variety of positions, and ensuring various systems and initiative tracking are up to date.
  • Internal Learning Support – Support in the coordination of company-wide learning events related to event logistics, preparing workshop materials, researching venues and vendors, coordinating catering, attending planning meetings, and distributing and summarizing evaluations/surveys.
  • Communication – Support various communication needs within the team, such as content updates to our intranet pages, creating one-page employee information sheets/slides for staff meetings, updating various resource documents and templates, and drafting and coordinating posts on our intranet.
  • Culture and Employee Experience – Helping to create a healthy and resilient culture of care and contribution and supporting a positive and engaging employee experience through involvement with our listening strategy, employee recognition and milestones, and conversation and wellbeing initiatives.
About You

This position is best suited for a student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or diploma program focusing on Business Administration, Human Resource Management, or a related field. If your skills and interests align with what we’re looking for, we encourage you to apply.

The core skills that will help you thrive here include:

  • Relationships Matter – You understand what it takes to cultivate relationships to deliver results with your team and to contribute to a community that celebrates a culture of belonging.
  • Excellent Communicator – You demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and are energized knowing you can contribute your communication skills to a wide range of projects.
  • Collaborative – You enjoy connecting with people and asking questions. You routinely push outside your comfort zone and take your teammates with you by empowering and supporting them.
  • Listening – You know that being present and listening to people to understand their needs and experiences is integral to being in service of others.
  • Organized – You are highly organized with a strong attention to detail, excellent time management, and enjoy working both independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Flexible and Adaptable – You can shift and adjust your priorities with positivity and an open mind. You openly seek clarity to understand others’ needs and adapt your approaches to suit.
  • Growth Mindset – You are always learning and strive for continuous personal and professional development.
  • Tools of the Trade – You are familiar with Microsoft Office and are comfortable learning and exploring new platforms.
