Morskate Manufacturing is a family‑run structural steel manufacturer located in Ponoka, Alberta. Specializing in structural, agricultural and custom orders, we pride ourselves on our ability to be adaptable and flexible when designing and building orders to meet the customers’ exact requirements.

Position Summary

Are you a hands‑on professional with a passion for keeping cranes and lifting equipment running safely and efficiently? Morskate Manufacturing is looking for a skilled and reliable Overhead Crane Service Technician to join our team.

In this role, you’ll be primarily responsible for installing, assembling, and maintaining overhead cranes at various job sites. Travel away from home for a few days at a time will be required. Your technical expertise, commitment to safety, and ability to communicate effectively with supervisors will be essential in ensuring all installations and maintenance work are completed to the highest standards.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain an excellent personal attendance record and represent the company professionally at customer sites
  • Assemble, install, and commission overhead crane systems and components primarily on‑site
  • Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and service work on overhead cranes and lifting equipment
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, structural, and electrical issues related to crane systems
  • Interpret installation drawings, electrical schematics, manuals, and specifications
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
  • Safely perform rigging, lifting, and material handling using overhead cranes, hoists, and mobile equipment
  • Accurately measure, align, and verify components per installation and assembly drawings
  • Inspect completed installations and service work to ensure quality, functionality, and safety
  • Communicate job progress, issues, and recommendations to customers and management
  • Complete required service reports, inspections, and documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Identify and resolve on‑site issues efficiently to meet project timelines
  • Promote and follow safe work practices at all times, including lockout/tagout and fall protection where required
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Qualified Electrician (journeyman or equivalent certification)
  • 2+ years experience in overhead crane service, repair, or installation
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with hoists, winches, and crane control systems
  • Rigging experience an asset
  • Willingness to travel away from home for multi‑day projects
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, indoor & outdoor
  • Physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English clearly
Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Active participation in company safety program
  • Follow safety protocol including wearing of required PPE and understanding and application of safety policies, procedures and practices.
