Overview

Are you looking for a role where you will provide mechanical trades services by troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and fabricating mechanical equipment and repairing, modifying, and installing new or existing structures? Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site is looking for a Millwright to support the day-to-day operation of CNL industrial equipment and ensure customer commitments are met.

What will you be doing!

  • Performing routine and non-routine preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure safe operation of CNL mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, various types of precision machining equipment, gear boxes, hydraulic units).
  • Troubleshooting mechanical equipment to ensure safe operation and continuity of production.
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, work packages, and reference materials to ensure the scope of a given job is fully understood.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the job comply with Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL) regulations and applicable codes.
  • Documenting maintenance activities and comprehensive work packages by completing all pertinent paperwork to ensure an accurate maintenance history for review or audit purposes.
  • Constructing, fabricating, installing and/or decommissioning mechanical systems and structures.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping practices in all work areas, tools and equipment.
  • Adhering to provincial, federal and AECL regulations to provide a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Attending monthly safety meetings and reporting safety concerns and/or infractions when observed.
  • Applying Event Free Tools and Pre-Job Brief information throughout the execution of assigned work.
  • Assisting in the training, coaching, and mentoring of apprentices and co-op students.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
    • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
    • Must have completed apprenticeship training or equivalent and be qualified as a Millwright with an Interprovincial Red Seal ticket.
  • Experience
    • Must have three (3) years’ experience as a Red Seal Millwright.
    • Experience in a wide variety of industrial work environments.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge of internal structural checklists, maintenance records, and inspection processes.
    • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as CSA 47.1/W59, CSA N285, Z-299 Quality Assurance levels and Underwriter’s Laboratory codes.
    • Knowledge of metallurgy and the effectiveness of the equipment being used.
    • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings specific to Millwrights to understand the scope of the job.
    • Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools and precision measuring and leveling equipment.
    • Written and verbal communication skills to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across disciplines.
    • Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Problem-solving abilities to adapt installation techniques to on-site conditions.
    • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, and determine the most appropriate means of proceeding with the work.
    • Mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
    • Ability to interpret diagrams or blueprints to understand equipment operation.
    • Good comprehension skills in interpreting drawings and code specifications.
    • Ability to provide material take-offs and labour estimates.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld to engineering specifications as outlined.
    • Good planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative.
    • Must be punctual, dependable and safety-minded.
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
    • Exceptional organizational skills, including prioritizing and time management.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), including the minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's standards.

Working Conditions:

  • Compressed work week: four days, ten hours per day, starting at 6 am.
  • Normal physical agility to perform tasks involving bending, lifting, and mobility.
  • Ability to wear and work in protective clothing, including respirators, and using equipment as required.
  • Exposure to nuclear radiation and industrial hazards.
  • Work in environments requiring personal protective equipment and clothing, including construction/decommissioning sites, containment zones, and potentially confined spaces.
  • Able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures ranging from +30°C to -40°C.
