Overview

Norcada is a MEMS, nanotechnology, and photonics company in Edmonton, Canada. The company focuses on the development and manufacturing of products with applications in environmental monitoring, microscopy, microanalysis, genomics and quantum science. Since our founding in 2002, Norcada has developed a broad customer base for its products, with sales and product development collaborations in four continents and more than 40 countries worldwide.

The Position

Norcada is currently looking for candidates to fill a “MEMS Process Engineer” position within its MEMS manufacturing group. This position reports to the Device Manufacturing Direction, who oversees production of our different MEMS product lines, including microscopy/ spectroscopy products and in-situ technology solutions. This position is expected to spend most of the working hours inside a cleanroom fabrication facility.

We are seeking individuals with University-level education and experience who can support our MEMS design, and manufacturing activities. This is a full time, permanent position and provides medical and pension benefits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop new MEMS products to support the company’s production and R&D initiatives
  • Troubleshoot process and product quality issues, and take corrective actions as necessary
  • Understand equipment capabilities and utilize baseline process performance indicators to control and optimize key processes
  • Develop and optimize processes using Design of Experiment (DOE)
  • Create, edit and maintain processing documentation
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism that is required from employees of a trusted high-tech brand
Qualifications And Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science (BSc, MSc, PhD)
  • Hands-on experience in MEMS or Semiconductor design, prototyping, and production
  • Hands-on experience in microfabrication techniques including UV lithography, electron-beam lithography, PVD, CVD, wet etching, RIE, ICP-RIE, DRIE and dicing
  • Experience with metrology tools used for fabrication processing, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), optical microscopy, ellipsometry, and profilometry
  • Ability to learn new hardware and software quickly in a fast-paced and high-tech environment
  • Manual dexterity and fine mechanical aptitude
  • A team player with great communication and interpersonal skills
The Ideal Candidate
  • Has training and experience in MEMS or semiconductor fabrication.
  • Has experience in designing photomasks for UV lithography.
  • Has the ability to carry out investigative work and solve process related issues
  • Feels comfortable working assertively in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Has excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Good command of English, both written and verbal, is essential
  • Has the ability to work both independently and in cooperation with team members
  • Is detail-oriented and organized
  • Preferably lives within the greater Edmonton Area
