Overview

CMP (Charlottetown Metal Products) is a dynamic and growing stainless steel equipment manufacturer delivering design, fabrication, and installation services and turn-key solutions to our food processing customers. As a division of FPS (Food Process Solutions), we serve customers across Canada, the United States, and internationally.

In October 2023 CMP announced an expansion to our Global Innovation Center located on our PEI Campus. This is an exciting new investment in innovation for FPS and CMP.

You will work alongside and complement our talented team of over 160 engineers, designers, technical sales, and fabricator/welders. You will have an opportunity to grow your knowledge of project management and machinery design and leverage that knowledge to build strength in hygienic design of food processing equipment. CMP is constantly innovating and contributing to more advanced hygienic designs to exceed client needs. We engineer food safety in everything we do.

Position Scope

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to work with an established team of engineers and designers and provide support on current and upcoming projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design industrial freezers and food processing equipment systems based on Project Engineer and Design Engineer’s instructions
  • Develop and maintain design drawings, programs, documents, machine function descriptions, processes, and design versions using AutoCAD, 3D modelling (Inventor/Solidworks) software in our FPS Autodesk Vault application
  • Create and input BOMs into ERP
  • Provide technical support and liaise between internal field support and shop staff in all facets of design and execution
  • Ensure all specifications & functions are met, optimizing cost and utilization of material and resources as part of the functional design in the freezer industry
  • Verify the designs meet original requirements from concept, analysis, modification, manufacturing inspection, installation, and testing, to final commissioning
  • Work in compliance with all FPS administrative, health & safety policies and standard operation procedures
  • Perform relevant job duties as assigned
Qualifications & Abilities
  • Post-secondary education or above in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Fabrication Engineering or related discipline
  • Proficient knowledge of using AutoCAD and 3D modelling (Inventor) software
  • EGBC Registrant – P.Eng/EIT preferred
  • Working experience in food processing equipment design preferred
  • Team player, self-motivated, quick learner with a can-do attitude. Willingness to meet quick deadlines and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences
