Position Summary

We are currently recruiting for a Material & Processes Engineer or Technologist (Chemist) to join our Engineering team in Victoria, BC, or Toronto, ON. The Material & Processes Engineer or Technologist (Chemist) is responsible for the review and approval of aircraft and process modifications, as well as approval of De Havilland suppliers for special processes.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate new materials (non-metallic, composites, elastomers) for aerospace applications. Work closely with material suppliers, vendors, and laboratories in evaluating materials and processes.
  • Provide expertise in special processes to support manufacturing operations.
  • Maintain and update materials specifications and processes related documents.
  • Evaluate materials and processes to ensure compliance with environmental requirements (REACH, EPA, CEPA, etc.).
  • Evaluate aircraft modifications to ensure compliance with approved processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and implement current and new company processes to maintain industry leadership.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to In-Service for operator queries.
  • Travel regularly to perform audits of special processes at suppliers.
  • Evaluate suppliers’ conformity to manufacturing processes requirements.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes deviations requested by suppliers.
Additional Functions
  • Actively works to improve daily processes and ensure all work meets customer requirements.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and related aircraft fields to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company product.
  • Performs other duties such as Internal Audit Support, Airworthiness containment activities and corrective action implementation.
Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in materials engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience related to the special processes for the manufacturing of aerospace parts, chemical processes (anodizing, plating, etc.) and aerospace chemical products (paints, primers, sealants, adhesives, elastomers, etc.).

Skills:

  • Strong leadership, problem solving, flexibility and project management skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in aerospace industries in material fields.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English.
  • Good understanding of Nadcap, AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensing as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia or Ontario.
