Job description

We have an opening for an experienced Material Handler. As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for efficiently receiving, organizing, storing, and shipping materials required for various utility construction projects. This role is key in ensuring that our construction teams have the materials they need, when they need them to keep projects on schedule and running smoothly.

Responsibilities:
  • Receiving
    • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and packing lists.
    • Unload trucks, pack/unpack deliveries, count, sort, organize and store inventory in the proper location.
    • Inspect materials for damage and report/resolve any discrepancies with suppliers.
    • Receive excess material, count, re-stock, and process returns.
  • Picking & Shipping
    • Pick, pack and clearly label materials in accordance with material lists.
    • Organize, stage and safely load trucks via forklift for shipment to jobsites.
    • Work closely with supervisors and foremen to understand immediate material needs for construction projects.
    • Coordinate logistics with transportation providers to ensure timely delivery of materials to project locations.
    • Maintain accurate records of outgoing shipments, including shipping details and tracking information.
    • Driving and occasional pick-up of material from local suppliers
  • Inventory Management
    • Organize and store material in an orderly and accessible manner, maximizing space efficiency and minimizing material loss.
    • Provide regular updates to the Inventory Controller about inventory levels, material needs, and shipping status.
    • Conduct regular inventory counts at the Inventory Controller’s direction to ensure accuracy of stock levels, while minimizing stockouts and overstock situations.
    • Update and maintain inventory management systems, recording material movements in and out of the warehouse.
    • Ability to lift heavy materials and operate warehouse equipment safely (forklift certification is a plus).
  • Warehouse Maintenance
    • Daily housekeeping and other duties as directed.
    • Ensure the warehouse and yard is organized, clean, and safe at all times.
    • Safely operate warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) to move materials as needed.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in warehouse operations/material handling
  • Proficiency in inventory management software
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and operate warehouse equipment safely
  • Must possess valid forklift certification and have experience handling heavy loads up to 7000 lbs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a keen sense for organization
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record
A few qualifications that would help you succeed:
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel and Outlook)
  • Certifications in logistics, warehousing, supply chain and/or purchasing
  • Background in the electric utility industry would be a significant asset
