Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Engineering and Physical Plant, the Manager, Technical Services is responsible for managing the maintenance systems within the Engineering Operations.
Primary responsibilities include managing the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all associated equipment and services in all buildings at the University of Toronto Scarborough; developing procedures of operations; initiating daily/preventative maintenance work orders and ensuring implementation through regular inspections; instructing in the use of appropriate maintenance and repair methods; troubleshooting and resolving equipment and systems to minimize downtime; coordinating work between contractors, trades and UTSC staff; indirectly managing and delegating work of the Electrician, Electrician Apprentice, Plumber, Millwright and Control Technician and directly managing Lead Hands, Shift Engineers and Maintenance Operating Engineers.
The Manager, Technical Services will manage and direct all stages of projects, including consulting/client liaison, initial review/cost estimates, project system design, analysis of system functionality and performance requirements, troubleshooting and resolving to propose alternatives, implementation, commissioning, and final review of multiple upgrades/modification projects.
The Manager will use Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) techniques to plan the annual maintenance schedule. They will develop the maintenance budget based on predicted costs as an output from the annual maintenance schedule. The Manager will analyze and identify equipment near end of life and propose strategic recommendations for replacement of equipment.
The Manager may act in the capacity of the Assistant Director, Engineering and Physical Plant or as their designate, in their absence.
