Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a Manager of Financial Reporting for a 6-month contract in Toronto. The successful candidate will prepare consolidated financial statements in compliance with IFRS and serve as a subject-matter expert in complex accounting areas. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and a CPA designation, along with at least 6 years of experience in accounting and external reporting. This role also requires strong analytical and communication skills, with a pay rate of $50.00 per hour.

Qualifications

  • 6–10+ years of progressive accounting or external reporting experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS standards.
  • Experience with public company financial reporting preferred.
  • Prior Big Four or large public accounting firm experience is an asset.

Manager, Financial Reporting – 6 Month Contract
About the Opportunity
External Financial Reporting
  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and notes in accordance with IFRS.
  • Own the preparation and accuracy of disclosures related to leases, share-based compensation, business combinations, PPE, and consolidation matters.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to collect and validate reporting data and ensure compliance with disclosure requirements.
  • Support management discussion & analysis (MD&A) and other regulatory filings.
Technical Accounting
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert on:
  • IFRS 16 Leases – lease portfolio analysis, ROU assets and lease liability measurement, discount rate application, modification assessments, required disclosures.
  • IFRS 2 Share‑based Payments – valuation analysis, expense recognition, forfeiture policy, equity vs. cash‑settled classification, award modifications.
  • IFRS 3 Business Combinations – purchase price allocation (PPA), identification and valuation of intangible assets, goodwill impairment considerations.
  • IFRS 10, IFRS 11, IFRS 12 – consolidation models, assessment of control/joint control, NCI calculation, disclosure requirements.
  • IAS 16 Property, Plant and Equipment – capitalization policies, componentization, depreciation methods, impairment and derecognition.
  • Draft technical accounting memos and present conclusions to senior management and external auditors.
  • Monitor updates to IFRS and emerging regulatory requirements; advise leadership on impacts.
Consolidation & Close Support
  • Oversee the monthly and quarterly consolidation process, including intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation (IAS 21).
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of consolidation entries related to leases, SBC, PPE, and acquisition accounting.
  • Partner with accounting teams globally to resolve complex accounting and reporting issues.
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls over external reporting processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, automate data flows, and improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support system implementations or enhancements (e.g., lease accounting software, consolidation system).
Audit & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors for assigned technical areas.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and respond to audit inquiries.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with HR (equity awards), Legal (contracts and M&A agreements), Procurement (lease agreements), and Operations (PPE).
About You
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, CA, or equivalent designation preferred.
  • 6–10+ years of progressive accounting or external reporting experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS, including IFRS 16, IFRS 2, IFRS 3, IFRS 10-12, IAS 16, and related standards.
  • Experience with public company financial reporting strongly preferred.
  • Prior Big Four or large public accounting firm experience is an asset.
Skills & Competencies
  • Deep technical accounting expertise with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills, especially in drafting disclosures and technical memos.
  • Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with consolidation and lease accounting systems.

Pay Rate

$50.00 / Hour
