Qualifications

We Can Offer You:
  • Starting wage of $17.89 per hour
  • 0.50 wage increase every 6 months (dependent on hours worked)

What You’ll Be Doing:

The Maintenance Worker will join a team of 7 responsible for routine maintenance and repairs of SGH buildings, under the guidance of the Manager, Facilities Services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Installation, drywall repair, mudding, taping, patching, sanding, and painting
  • Door, window, and glass installation and replacement
  • Steel stud framing and drop ceiling installation
  • Minor plumbing tasks in washrooms and kitchens
  • Exterior building maintenance
  • Ceramic and vinyl tile repairs and installations
  • Additional duties as required

You may encounter individuals in crisis, under influence, or with complex issues, and may need to perform duties such as cleaning and sanitizing bodily fluids and disposing of safe injection materials.

What We Need from You:
  • Minimum of grade 10 education or equivalent technical training and experience in building maintenance
  • Knowledge and experience in plumbing, carpentry, drywall, framing, and painting
  • Experience working with contractors and assisting them
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete work orders promptly
  • Comfort with hand/power tools and rented equipment
  • Ability to respond to minor emergencies
  • Good written and spoken English skills
  • Physical ability to walk, climb, stand, bend, carry materials, and lift items over 50 lbs
  • Proficiency with computers, smartphones, and tablets
  • Recent vulnerable sector check (within 3 months)
  • Health and Safety training completed during onboarding and updated annually
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination required
