Overview

MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST St. Basil Catholic Education Centre

This position is open to all internal and external candidates. Prior to employment successful applicants must provide supporting documents as outlined on our New Employees page.

We are looking to hire a continuous 40.0 hour per week Maintenance Specialist at St. Basil Catholic Education Centre in Lethbridge. This assignment is to commence as soon as possible. This position is covered by the CUPE 1825 Maintenance and Custodial collective agreement.

The Maintenance Specialist is assigned to maintain and repair the physical assets of the School Division. This person must be physically able to perform skilled work in the following areas: groundskeeping, electrical, plumbing, welding, interior finishing and carpentry work in building alteration and repair; responding to and resolving emergency situations; transporting materials, furniture and equipment; ensuring that assignments are completed in a safe, proper and timely manner. This position works alongside Journeypersons and outside contractors and they report directly to the Lead Maintenance Specialist and the Director of Facilities.

EDUCATION
  • High School Diploma;
  • Current WHMIS certification;
  • Current First Aid certification;
  • 5th Class Power Engineers Certificate of Competency or Building Operator B Certificate of Competency (considered an asset);
  • Valid Drivers License.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum five years experience in maintenance or construction sectors.
TECHNICAL SKILLS (advanced knowledge of)
  • Hand and power tools;
  • Ground maintenance equipment (including irrigation systems, riding lawnmowers and snowploughs);
  • Commercial cleaning equipment (including floor washers, buffers etc.);
  • Plumbing and electrical systems;
  • General and finishing carpentry;
  • Computer skills.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
  • Demonstrates ethical and confidential behaviour;
  • Demonstrates appropriate and independent use of time;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills in English is preferred (both written and oral);
  • Good problems solving skills;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Maintains effective working relationships with staff, students and community members.
