Job Description

Grace is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for our South Haven Site. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. Will pay for experience. Day position.

The Maintenance Mechanic at Grace repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment typical to the chemical manufacturing industry such as pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, reactors, and other equipment by performing the following duties and ensuring safety procedures are observed. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment. Performs said duties with little or no supervision on assigned shift.

Responsibilities
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors, chemical operators or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair equipment.
  • Provides input for equipment history, testing frequencies, recording observed data, writing reports, and maintaining records (computerized maintenance management data base).
  • Plans sequence of operations and methods to use when making repairs, replacements, mechanical alterations, and overhauls, following recognized good engineering practices and manufacture’s specifications.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment. Starts devices to test their performance. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment, repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
  • Manage hazardous waste in compliance with regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Is an active member on Emergency Response Team for Site.
Required Education
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • One to three years’ experience in a manufacturing plant.
  • Must be proficient in the use of mechanics’ hand tools including micrometers, calipers and other measuring devices as well as, electrical testing instruments such as voltage testers, meggers and volt/amp/ohm meters.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints or PNID’s.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator.
