Overview

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Licensed Practical Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre.

Working within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards of Practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Northern Health, the LPN works closely with the care team in direct care activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating interventions, and coordinating health services for Emergency Department patients. Participates in discharge and/or care planning, functions as a patient advocate, and teaches patients and their families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family. Establishes, maintains, and enhances therapeutic relationships based on respect. Under a team-based model, provides care to patients across the lifespan, and their families, based on stable and/or predictable states of health by initiating and following established plans of care. Recognizes and responds to unexpected patient outcomes by communicating and collaborating with other members of the healthcare team. Documents care provided and response to incidents in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Emergency Department expectations. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers as needed.

About Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre

Fort St. John Hospital and Health Centre has 44 Acute Care beds and 124 residential beds and is equipped to handle 22,000 ER visits per year. Some highlights about the hospital include:

  • Endoscopy suite, 2 state-of-the-art operating rooms, plus a procedure room
  • Ambulatory clinics including Cancer and Hemodialysis
  • Medical and Surgical inpatient rooms (40 beds)
  • 3 Intensive care units
  • Minor surgeries
  • 7 single Maternity rooms for Labour, Delivery, and Post-Partum
  • Fort St. John also has the Health Unit and Primary Care Clinic which serve the community

Fort St. John is known as “The Energetic City,” which reflects the large resource base of oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture. It overlooks the Peace River and serves as the capital of the Peace River district with a population of over 21,400 and servicing an area of approximately 70,000. The community offers a cultural centre and library, theatre, and art space, with seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one secondary school, plus a Northern Lights College campus.
