Job Description

Reporting directly to the CEO, the position of General Counsel at Tenet is ideal for a lawyer with strong technical skills, business instincts, a hands-on approach to problem solving, and the ability to work independently or with cross-functional teams including external counsel. The ideal candidate will have no less than 5 years of top-quality experience across assignments such as mergers & acquisitions, financing, securities matters, corporate governance, and corporate reorganizations. The candidate will negotiate and prepare agreements and other legal documentation, provide advice on legal risk and the impact of business decisions, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and the company’s continuous disclosure obligations in Canada.

What You\'ll Do

• Act as a business partner and corporate officer of the executive management team
• Lead and manage the in-house legal department
• Represent the corporation when dealing with third parties, including outside counsel
• Be a key negotiator for strategic transactions
• Provide accurate legal guidance to the executive staff on matters affecting the company
• Manage the compliance, risk management and legal services groups
• Attend executive level meetings related to future direction, pending mergers and acquisitions, and policy changes
• Create vendor contracts and contractor agreements
• Ensure that the company is in compliance with current business process laws

What You\'ll Need

• 5-8 years of relevant experience in corporate and business law in a large company or top-tier law firm
• Public company experience, including dealing with regulators at the AMF, OSC, SEC and with the exchange (CSE & NASDAQ)
• Strong analytical ability, attention to detail and interpersonal skills
• Pragmatic judgment, balancing legal and business imperatives
• Effective organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex legal issues for internal clients
• Ability to interface and communicate effectively with management and colleagues in English and French
