NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 5

POSITION TYPE: FULL-TIME, 35 HOURS/WEEK (Weekdays, 1:30 pm – 9:00 pm and Weekends, 10:30 am – 6:00 pm)

THE ROLE

The Lead Youth Activity Worker is a front-line position responsible for planning and leading activities and programs for children and youth ages 6-18. Responsibilities include program preparation and cleanup, purchasing supplies, preparing meals and snacks, driving participants on field trips, mentoring staff and volunteers, promoting safety, and managing incidents and sensitive issues.

The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and youth, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can build positive relationships while expanding their skills and interests. They should have experience in planning engaging activities in areas such as arts and culture, sports and recreation, leadership, community service, health and life skills, and education and career exploration. Confidence in leading activities for both small and large groups, along with positive behavior management skills, is essential. The candidate should be a quick thinker, calm under pressure, and enjoy mentoring others.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Experience in planning and leading activities for children and youth.
  • Strong group management skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in cross-cultural settings.
  • Understanding of youth development, issues, and community resources.
  • Commitment to social justice, EDI, and truth and reconciliation.
  • Class 5F Manitoba Driver’s License with a clear Driver’s Abstract.
  • Ability to provide a recent police record check with vulnerable sector search (PVSC) and child abuse registry checks.
  • Willingness to obtain a Class 4 driver’s license within 6 months of hire.
ASSETS:
  • Pursuing or holding a post-secondary education in Education, Child and Youth Care, or related social sciences.
  • Experience managing a program budget or petty cash.
  • Experience leading or mentoring staff or volunteers.
  • Valid First Aid & CPR certification.
  • Valid Safe Food Handling Certificate.
