Job summary

A Canadian consulting firm is seeking a motivated Junior Geotechnical EIT for their Mississauga office. The candidate will support various geotechnical projects through field and technical work, including data collection and report preparation. A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical focus and EIT eligibility are required. Position is contract-based until April 2026 with 37.5 hours a week.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Overview

GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Junior Geotechnical EIT to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a Junior Geotechnical EIT in our Mississauga, ON office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical.
• Eligible for professional registration (EIT or P.Eng.).
• Relevant professional experience (preferably in consulting) would be considered an asset.
• Understanding and demonstrated field experience in soil and bedrock classification, overburden and bedrock drilling methods, hydraulic testing (slug, packer, pumping tests), and soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater sampling protocols.
• Familiarity with software packages specific to geotechnical engineering (borehole logging, settlement and stability modeling).
• Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions, including working in remote locations and on programs that may require camp stays.

Main Duties

• Provide field and technical support to a wide variety of geotechnical projects; including the preparation and supervision of field programs, data collection, data analysis, and technical report writing and proposal preparation.
• Design and conduct field investigations, including: drilling and logging, test pitting, soil and bedrock characterization, monitoring well installation, hydraulic response testing, soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water sampling, installation of groundwater instrumentation, etc.
• Assisting intermediate and senior staff prepare technical geotechnical reports including, geotechnical site characterization and design (foundations, slope stability, retaining structures, settlement analysis, etc.), and groundwater and surface water monitoring reports.
• Assisting with field materials engineering and construction services as needed, including field testing and inspection of aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and construction and earthworks supervision.
• Interpretation and application of provincial and federal acts and regulations.
• Adhering to all company policies.
• Other duties as required.

Position

• Contract until April 2026 with possibility of extension
• 37.5 hours/week (varies with client workload)
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
