Position Overview

Responsible for providing Technical Systems support to the City of Vaughan including analyzing technical requirements, designing custom solutions, recommending technical options, performing unit testing, and any associated documentation. The Junior Developer is also responsible for assisting in the design, delivery, and improvement of in-house software applications and related courseware.

Responsibilities
Applications and Software Solutions
  • Participate in the design, development, and delivery of custom applications.
  • Perform hands‑on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications.
  • Conduct research into software application products and services in support of development and purchasing efforts.
  • Provide support for the testing of new and existing software applications under development or consideration for purchase.
  • Field incoming incident tickets from end users to resolve application and software issues within servers, databases, and other systems.
  • Communicate application problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams, end users, and unit leaders.
  • Maintain and enhance performance of all new and existing software and applications across the organization.
  • Test fixes and perform post‑resolution follow‑ups to ensure problems have been adequately resolved.
  • Learn appropriate software applications used and supported by the organization.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including the installation of service packs, patches, hot fixes, anti‑virus software, and so on.
  • Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting.
Qualifications and Experience
  • College Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or suitable equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in the field of Information Systems. Software development experience is an asset.
  • Experience in any of the following areas: architecture, IT operations, Web-development (C#, ASP.net, JQuery, and HTML5, SharePoint, PowerApps, Power Automate), Mobile development, enterprise solutions, and telecommunications is preferred.
  • Must be able to attend City related meetings as required.
  • This role travels outside the office as required to meet with vendors as well as departments throughout the City of Vaughan.
