Job Summary

Windsor Salt is seeking a 309A or 442A Red Seal/Journeyperson Electrician to join the maintenance team at the Ojibway Mine. This role involves industrial electrical installations and repairs for electrical components, panels, and substations throughout the facility. Employees may be assigned to surface areas (in the mill or maintenance shop) or underground (in the mine). The position requires working on all three shifts (days/afternoons/midnights) and overtime as needed. A background check and medical/audio exam are required upon offer acceptance. Windsor Salt is a unionized facility (Unifor Local 1959); successful candidates will be required to join the union upon commencement of employment. The starting wage is $47.74 per hour, with increases in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).


Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Electrician handles a variety of electrical components from small wires to large industrial cables and may be assisted when handling materials over 50 lbs.
  • Uses power tools and hand tools during installation or repair of electrical equipment.
  • Tools are organized in a tool caddie and transported to the location.
  • May work on a ladder, scissor lift, or high-lift to access high areas; may be perched or balanced on equipment.
  • May access low levels and operate in semi-confined spaces in various low-level postures.
  • May apply manual forces to control a load or torque components as needed.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ontario College of Skilled Trades certified electrician required (442A or 309A).
  • GED or high school diploma.
  • Minimum 2 years of industrial electrical experience; mining electrical experience preferred (2 years).
  • Familiar with Lock Out/Tag Out policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of heavy industrial/mining electrical maintenance practices.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting 3-phase 4160V motor control centers and 480V 3-phase/4160V mine power feeder circuits with ground monitors.
  • Proficient in reading schematics and calculating wire sizes and motor horsepower for new installations.
  • Ability to read schematics and ladder logic to troubleshoot PLCs, soft starts, and other motor control circuits; knowledge of safe operation of required equipment.
  • Committed to safety and reporting or correcting hazardous conditions immediately.
  • Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Some computer skills (CAT ET, Windows, SMAG, etc.).


Work Environment

  • Underground mine conditions with temperatures ranging from 78°–100°F; high humidity in summer and low in winter.
  • Surface areas exposed to weather, with varying temperatures and humidity; noise and dust present.
  • Dry work areas; lighting often provided by miner’s cap lamps and equipment lighting.
  • Floor heave and uneven floors; potential slip hazards from equipment traffic.
  • Work around machinery and energized power cables; be mindful of roof and rib conditions underground.
  • Must stand and walk long distances; may need to sit in operator seats and endure whole-body vibrations.
  • Work from heights with use of full-body harness as necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate machinery with multiple hand/foot controls, sometimes simultaneously.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders up to 30 feet.
