The Opportunity

As an iOS Engineer at Ground News, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how millions of readers discover, navigate, and compare the news. You’ll work closely with our Head of Mobile and engineering team to design, build, and optimize features that empower our users to see every side of the story.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll bring fresh ideas to a fast-growing consumer app, balancing technical excellence with a deep care for user experience. From performance optimization to building new discovery features, your work will directly impact how people engage with the world’s news.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to deliver seamless and intuitive user experiences.
  • Drive performance improvements, ensuring the app runs smoothly at scale across devices.
  • Design and implement new features, from article discovery to personalized user tools, that make the news more transparent and accessible.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions, contributing to iOS engineering best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues with a focus on quality.
What you’ll bring
  • 3-5 years of professional experience building and shipping iOS apps.
  • Proficiency in Swift, Xcode, and iOS frameworks (UIKit, SwiftUI, Combine, Core Data, etc.).
  • A solid foundation in mobile app architecture, design patterns (MVC, MVVM, etc.), and RESTful API integration.
  • An eye for detail when it comes to usability, accessibility, and polished UI.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and collaborative code practices.
  • A self-starter mindset: you’re curious, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Points
  • Interest in the news media ecosystem or social impact products.
  • Experience working on consumer-facing products at scale.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools and A/B testing for mobile apps.
  • Exposure to push notifications, deep linking, and offline-first experiences.
  • Overall fluency in Google tools.
