Job Description

We are seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Minerals & Metals (M&M NAM) Structural Engineering Department. The successful candidate will report to the Structural Engineering Team Lead and the Structural Lead on the project to which he or she is assigned.

The person in this position will work closely with all disciplines (engineering, HSE, procurement, quality, etc) and project management to manage design responsibilities and to resolve design related issues associated with the project.

Your role
  • Coordinate engineering with other disciplines such as layout, mechanical, piping, electrical etc.
  • Develop engineering, 3D design and drawing inputs, from preliminary concepts, specifications, engineering directives, and other data, according to client specifications.
  • Perform engineering calculations and prepare reports for foundations, reinforced concrete structure and steel structure designs.
  • Review the concrete rebar, steel connection design and fabrication shop drawings.
  • Prepare concrete, rebar and steel material take-off estimates.
  • Provide technical assistance to construction to ensure best resolution for all parties for any technical issues arising on the site.
  • Attending meetings and take minutes and write the report.
About you
  • BS or MS in Structural Engineering with 5 plus years of experience. Project experience in heavy industrial sectors is preferred such as Mining, Oil & Gas, Acid Plant, Fertilizer Plant, etc.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Quebec or Ontario.
  • Must have experience in design and analysis of structural concrete and structural steel. Familiarity with CSA, CISC, NBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE and IBC standards and codes.
  • Experience using Structural Design and Analysis tools such as STAADPro or RISA3D or SAP2000.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to perform design engineering. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French, ability to maintain confidential information critical.
